How to Choose a Learning/Tutoring Center Checklist
Start by going to our online directory . . .
We have hundereds of listings, so you can find the service closest to your needs. Once you have a few providers narrowed down, we recommend that you call them and here are a few questions you can ask:
| |
Is the provider part of a nationwide service? |
| |
With what grade levels does this provider work with? |
| |
How or where does the student interact with the tutor? |
| |
For what period of time can you enroll for this service?
One month School term School semester Full school year Summer program Ongoing
| |
What is the fee structure for this resource? Does the center have a cancellation or make-up policy? |
| |
What are the qualifications of the tutors? |
| |
What is the curriculum track record? |
Then, go and visit the center...
Call and arrange a time to visit when children are there and there is a manager/owner available to talk to you. While you are there, have a look around.
| |
Find out what choice you have in selecting a particular tutor or how the company will determine the right tutor for you child. |
| |
Does the tutor have experience teaching the subject your child is focusing on? |
| |
Are you able to interview the tutor directly? Does the prospective tutor have experience teaching children of similar ages and learning styles to your child? |
| |
Is the study area set up like a classroom or is it casual. Will your child have the same tutor each session? |
| |
How will the tutor measure your child's needs and progress? |
| |
Does the center offer small group tutoring or one on one? What's the maximum number in a group? |
| |
Ask for evidence of:
Higher test results Improved classroom grades Better homework completion Satisfaction surveys of students or parents
These are just a few suggestions. Add or remove any you feel necessary and remember to keep evaluating the center every now and again, to make sure it is still meeting your demands.
